Boy, 7, Third Dengue Death This Month

A 12-year-old boy from Banjar Kalang Anyar, Tababan, became the latest victim of Bali’s dengue outbreak when he died of the haemorrhagic form of the disease at Sanglah General Hospital last Tuesday. He was admitted on Sunday.

Dengue fever spreading in the North and Northeast

BANGKOK (NNT) -- Dengue fever is found to be spreading in many provinces, especially in the North and the Northeast, prompting public health officials to urgently destroy breeding sites of mosquitoes to prevent further spread of the disease.

Nakhon Ratchasima Public Health Office has dispatched officials to spray chemicals to kill mosquitoes in many community areas, notably at schools and temples. There have been 486 patients found thus far in the province, and an eight-year-old girl has recently died from the disease.

The situation in the northeastern province of Buri Ram was similar to Nakhon Ratchasima as the number of patients has rocketed to 360 people with one fatality reported, one fold higher than the same period of last year. Most of the patients were found to be children aged between 5 and 14.

Advanced BioScience Laboratories To Manufacture Hawaii Biotech's Dengue Vaccine For Clinical Trial

Hawaii Biotech, Inc. and Advanced BioScience Laboratories, Inc. (ABL) announced today they are partnering for preclinical development of a dengue vaccine. Hawaii Biotech plans to begin a company-sponsored Phase 1 human clinical study with its tetravalent dengue vaccine candidate later this year. Under a contract from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), ABL will oversee the manufacture, assembly and testing of supplies.

KUALA LUMPUR: The death toll from dengue is climbing despite the efforts of the Health Ministry to contain the scourge.
