The Buzz Off 1+1 challenge is a simple way that you can help us to combat Malaria.
Buzz Off is buying antimalarial medication to distribute into poor and under resourced clinics.
Malaria parasites develop a resistance to some malaria medications which renders them less effective and that costs lives. (This topic is discussed here and there is also information about it this in the Buzz Off Public Library.)
Recently, health care workers in West Papua told Buzz Off that they could not afford more effective medication as it was too expensive. These workers told us that it would cost them about $2.00 per 100 tablets to buy effective medication in West Papua. That is about the price of a can of Coke or a Mars Bar!
When you consider that most of the population of West Papua earn under $US1 per day you can see why the clinics which have no external funding find these medications expensive.
Buzz Off wants to challenge you to drink one less can of drink and eat one less chocolate bar and donate the money to the 1+1 appeal. This will be greatfor your waiste line and will help us to get life saving antimalarials into these poor and under resourced clinics. Just the cost of one of these food items is enough to buy 100 tablets.
Beating Malaria is not rocket science - just a series of incremental steps!
